Crossing the Farm

A strategic, multi-player game which experiments the evolution of urban food supply and consumption system under different sustainability incentives.

Food system process

Food system process

Food, is a daily necessity. It becomes a carrier of our lifestyle, cultural values, family traditions, and even personal ideologies. It is also a topic that connects people and together contributes to the greater planet. We need radical and structural changes to re-balance the needs of humans and the environment. Over the decades, we are observing the ever-refined division of labour due to urbanization. Currently the consumers have strong needs to secure the food sources with transparent traceability. However, they have little knowledge of the production process and the latest upgrades. How to re-connect consumers with the food supply system? How to make consumers appreciate food more?

Even though consumers are familiar with the environmental problem and its causes, the expectations of their actions, impacts, and perception of the change through their own behaviour is not there to form a starting point of the behaviour model.

We believe people would gain much more direct experiences and knowledge by behaving as one of the key stakeholders in the food system. They will understand better the impact on consumer behaviour and decision-making insights of the other stakeholders. At the meanwhile, they are encouraged to equip better skills to initiate a real action.

We design a strategic multi-player game, “Crossing the Farm”, which simulates the food system collaboration mechanism and experiments its evolution under different sustainability incentives and its impacts on urban spatial patterns.
